SDR-IP description :

RF-Space SDR-IP is a high performance receiver managed via internet protocol (TCP/IP) and via Ethernet 100 base-T network. The apparatus uses an analog to digital converter (ADC) operating at 80 MHz with a resolution of 16 bits. Dithering techniques, that is the random dispersion of quantization errors, ensure minimum spurious responses in the entire tunable RF range. The data processed by a digital down converter (DDC) made with an Xilinx FPGA extract the signals in I/Q format, ie in phase and quadrature, on a bandwidth and bit resolution according to the operator's needs. This band acquired by the SpectraVue software implements the functions of filtering, demodulation, analysis, RF storage of a range up to 1.8 MHz. SpectraVue offers an FFT frequency analysis with 2 million points for sampled signals at a speed between 32 KHz and 2 MHz, this corresponds to a resolution of only 0.015 ~ 0.95 Hz in the radio spectrum. Using TCP/IP for communication compatibility is extended to PC, Mac and Linux operating systems. By networking the receiver can be placed remotely from the control point, multiple receivers can also be combined by setting a different IP address on the units.

The electronics for the high frequency part include RF attenuators from 0 ~ 30 dB in steps of 10 dB, for maximum flexibility, and a ten-filter preselector that divides the frequency range into narrow segments of an octave. This solution, employing relays and not semiconductors for commutations, reduces the load at the ADC input by improving the dynamic response in the presence of strong out-of-band signals, at the same time the minimum clock phase noise keeps the dynamics also for signals from adjacent channels. For the IF output, a 14-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) operating at 200 MHz is used, this output can be configured to generate the RF spectrum copy or a coherent CW signal for testing purposes.

For the digital part, the DDC circuit offers on filtering action over 120 dB in image rejection within 90% of the Fs bandwidth with a gain variation (ripple) of 0.1 dB or less. The figures show the high efficiency of the data processing by returning a usable band of 1.8 MHz for a flow of 2 Msps. Internally the circuit operates with a precision between 28 ~ 32 bits which is rounded to 24 bits before the information is returned to the computer software.

The optional installation of a oscillator with -170 dBc/Hz @ 10 KHz phase noise enhances the characteristics of the receiver and guarantees a real stability of ± 1 ppm within the entire temperature range between 0 ~ 50 °C, the module it also allows the input for an external 10 MHz reference so as to synchronize the frequency for example with a GPS standard.
