With power supplied directly from the vehicle battery, the microprocessor continues operationg even when the power switch is Off. Current drain is approximately 2.5 mA.
Trio Kenwood TR-7850 battery back-up system
If you wish to retain the memories even when moving the unit between the car and the fixed station, utilize a bettery back-up system. Otherwise, all the memories are cleared when the power cord is disconnected. For back-up use four AA NiCd batteries, see figure.
