WR-G39DDC Excelsior description :

The WR-G39DDC EXCELSIOR is an innovative high performance SDR for the HF / VHF / UHF bands covering the frequency range from 9 KHz to 3500 MHz. The RF front-end circuit adopt an up-converter with a intermediate frequency of 3910 MHz, this configuration allows a higher image image rejection than conventional circuit structures. After digitization of the signals, operated with a 16 bit / 100 msps ADC, this WiNRADiO implements two DDCs acquiring at the same time two broad band segments up to 4 MHz. These portions are available for the recording of the RF spectrum and the demodulations including further processing by the software. At the same time, a real-time spectrum analyzer is active over a range of 16 MHz, characterized by a resolution of 1.5 kHz.

The Winradio WR G39DDC extends the flexibility of SDRs up to GHz with a sensitivity, dynamic range, accuracy and speed in frequency scans not found in other models. In fact, this set of features makes the WR-G39DDC not only a listening and monitoring receiver, but also a measuring receiver with many high-end instrumental and operational functions. Among the elements to underline are the very high scanning speed that reaches 1000 MHz / second, this is equivalent to review 80000 radio channels in steps of 12.5 KHz in a second, setting records of effectiveness in the search for VHF & UHF emissions of a completely different level compared to the characteristics of the common scanners. The accuracy in signal measurements is equally high, typically the uncertainty falls within 2 dB for most of the tunable frequency range making the S-meter a faithful reflection of the antenna RF components. Another positive factor is the spurious generated by the receiver itself, Achilles' heel for several models of radio equipment, which in the case of WR-G39DDC are typically lower than just 0.4 uV as equivalent input signals.

Within a range of 16 MHz there is the availability of two DDC (digital converters) configurable in bandwidth, one from 20 KHz to 4 MHz and the other from 20 KHz to 2 MHz. Each realizes an independent virtual receiver, with most complete demodulation modes and a selectivity ranging from 1 Hz to 320 KHz in 1 Hz steps that guarantees - under every real circumstance - to optimize the listening for each kind of emission. There is no shortage of functions and options such as cascade spectrum analysis (waterfall), demodulated audio spectrum analysis, AFC, noise blanker, notch filters, different types of scanning, five modes for squelch, many tuning variants, an unlimited availability of memories, a complete on-line help. Of course there is also a recorder integrated into the software through which you can instantly record and playback the signals received from both the DDC channels, then 4 MHz of continuous band, or the demodulated audio. The Recording function also offers the possibility of adopting a pre-buffering so as to be sure not to lose even the initial instants of each transmission.

Winradio EXCELSIOR display

The interface of the software developed by WiNRADiO is very complete and easy to use, the graphics are excellent and well structured. To add that in swept mode, that is not in real time, the spectrum analyzer of the receiver can cover a frequency range not limited by technical factors but only by the user's choices. This allows you to monitor a wide range without interruption, the upper image for example shows the signals from 80 to 470 MHz.

WR-G39DDC Excelsior performance and practical notes :

Requirements for the PC are a 2 GHz quad-core CPU or higher and a Windows operating system from XP. Depending on the resources of your computer you must intuitively adjust the maximum bandwidth acquired. The receiver is available in two versions, the WR-G39DDCe (editor's note: here described and visible in the image at the top of the page) is a module to be connected via USB, the WR-G39DDCi adopts the shape of a PCI express card. The electrical and functional characteristics do not differ, the type of installation and some peculiarities of use instead have distinctive characteristics.
