Description :

The WR-G305 is a wide coverage SDR receiver having a tuning range that from only 9 KHz reaches 1800 MHz. Thanks to an optional frequency converter, it is possible to extend the useful range of use up to 3500 MHz. The apparatus is characterized by the considerable sensitivity guaranteed, with relative continuity, within the entire VHF and UHF spectrum by intervening also by inserting an attenuator or a preamplifier according to the needs. In the RF stage this WiNRADiO model adopts a series of tracking filters that implement a band-pass selection to improve dynamics with respect to high emissions and to ensure a rejection of image frequencies typically above 60 dB. The receiver has a circuit with mixed architecture. Analogous in the two frequency conversions, the first uses a 20 KHz wide quartz roofing filter composed of two 4-pole cells, subsequently digital, delegating the selectivity and demodulation of the signals to the software residing on the PC. The computer, connected via USB, realizes functions such as real time spectrum analysis, intensity measurement both in standard S points and in dBm / uV units, level / vocal audio component / CTCSS or DCS tone activated squelch, automatic AFC control. In scans, often useful in searching for V/UHF emissions, the receiver scans 60 channels per second at maximum speed.

In addition to the converter to expand the frequency limit to 3.5 GHz the WR-G305 offers two important additions: The first is the Professional Demodulator option, an add-on software that allows you to demodulate the DSB/ISB or double sideband / independent side bands, to vary the selectivity from a minimum of 100 Hz to 15 KHz for all narrowband modes, and to perform measurements on specific parameters of the radio channel. The second is the Wide-FM option, a hardware unit that supports the SDR circuit with a second receiver dedicated exclusively to the demodulation of broadband FM.

Performance and practical notes :

Those interested in the receiver pay attention to the fact that the device is available in two versions. The most common WR-G305e (note: here described and visible in the image at the top of the page) is a module to be connected via USB to a PC, the WR-G305i instead develops into a PCI type card. The characteristics do not differ, while of course the type of installation has radically different features. Requirements for the PC are a 500 MHz Pentium CPU or higher. Aspect to highlight is that by virtue of its design the apparatus also works in conjunction with a computer dated or otherwise of modest performance.
