AR-8200D description :

AR-8200D is an improved version of the well-known AR-8200 Mark III, a scanner that expresses remarkable functionality and interesting solutions. In general terms, the device has 2 VFO, thus offering a very practical operating mode while the panoramic spectrum analyzer allows to display the activity in the band within a range from 100 KHz up to 10 MHz while a marker can be moved to one of the signals so as to automatically tune the VFO. For further analysis this track can be saved so that it can be recalled at a later time. In detail the changes made in the AR-8200D version are five: The Voice Recording function previously available as an option, with the supplied 4GB micro-SDHC card you can store the audio for a duration of about 65 hours. The files is in the WAV mono-sampled format (18 KHz, 16 bit) and if exceed about 1.7 hours of continuous recording are automatically saved so as to improve the reliability. Then there is the CTCSS Decoder function, which is available as an option, for the recognition of the sub-audio tones and thus allowing the scanner to be left on a given radio channel until an emission appears that uses the right code. The APCO-25 function decodes digital transmissions, not encrypted, which use this mode. From the hardware side there are the addition of a mini-USB port for a PC control of the receiver. Last but not least, we left the most relevant function: the Voice Inverter, a frequency inversion audio scrambler that makes clear voice communications otherwise incomprehensible. It is possible to set the inversion frequency on 11 different values as shown in the table:

Hz
2400 / 2800 / 3200 / 3600 / 4000 / 4400 / 4800 / 5200 / 5600 / 6000 / 6150

AR-8200D other features: selection between different IF bandwidths for AM and FM, high frequency stability with TCXO oscillator, noise limiter, RF attenuator, squelch, separable ferrite antenna for MW band, metallic stylus antenna freely dimensionable and inclinable for the best reception. Multiple search options and wide range of customizable general memories with 12 alphanumeric characters.

AR-8200D performance and practical notes :

This scanner reproduces almost unchanged the characteristics of the previous model AR-8200 Mark III to which you refer for a complete evaluation. It is reiterated here that the receiver as a whole does not disappoint expectations by showing a good balance between the key factors of sensitivity and resistance to intermodulation.
