Lightweight and compact radio scanner, with only 145 grams, the DJ-X3 is aimed at those who practice radio-listening in AM and FM modes only and that need a simple device, with just four main keys, and equipped with the few functions that really need. It has 700 generic memory locations distributed in 10 banks while the scan function uses an adequate number of locations for the selection of the frequency interval. Besides the flexible antenna, a ferrite antenna is incorporated to improve the reception of the Medium Waves. As an auxiliary antenna the cable of an earphone can also be used (optional) reducing the encumbrance and for a discretionary use. A frequency inversion scrambler decoder is integrated, this function makes it possible to make clear the voice communications otherwise incomprehensible. Another interesting feature is the RF-detector mode to speed up the recognition of a nearby transmitter.

An LCD display with good visibility shows the frequency and the complementary data, the same display hides the speaker positioned in order to spread the sound through the lateral guides instead of the front. This particular mechanical construction returns a high quality sound if you take the portable receivers of the same type as reference. To add that using the headphones the audio is stereo, for listening to FM broadcast on 87.5~108 MHz. For prolonged use the power-save or auto-power-off mode can be activated, respectively, in order to control the operation time or switch off the device after 30, 60 or 90 minutes. The receiver also allows the cloning of the contents of the memories from a PC and also between two DJ-X3, the software can be downloaded from the Alinco site while the interface cables are required as optional accessories.

DJ-X3 performance and practical notes :

In general terms, this model does not excel in sensitivity, but stands out for a good price / performance ratio that makes it appreciable if you are looking for a basic device without giving up some non-standard functions. For example, the use of the earphone audio cable as an antenna proves to be very convenient, even within the sensitivity limits mentioned above, while the scrambler decoder opens to communications otherwise not accessible. However, it is worth pointing out that because of the variations in the audio frequency inversion technique, the actual use of this mode is conditioned by the single circumstance.
