PL-600 description :

The Tecsun PL-600 is a radio that covers over the FM band in continuity the long, medium and short waves between 0.1 ~30 MHz implementing a double frequency conversion superheterodyne circuit. In AM mode there is the option between two bandwidths of the intermediate-frequency filter so to adapt listening comfort and selectivity based on the presence of nearby interfering signals. There is also the control of the tone with two audio profile. In SSB mode the user benefits from a BFO with side knob for fine tuning control. In total 600 memories are available, the user can also organize partitions of these locations on his own preferences. The tuning can be done by rotary control, by directly enter the frequency on the keyboard, activating an automatic search. The LCD display includes a five segments signal meter bar.

Other features: adjustable RF gain between DX (high sensitivity), normal or local (low sensitivity). Clock, double alarm, sleep timer, internal ferrite antenna for LW + MW band and extractable stylus for SW + FM band, external antenna jack operating in both SW and FM, battery charge indicator, integrated battery charger. The package includes mains power supply, wire antenna, and transport belt.

PL-600 performance and practical notes :

Aspect to be highlighted for the Tecsun PL600 is the attractive price / performance ratio. Certainly this radio is not at the top in the range of portable devices operating in SSB, however, offers a good ease of use that makes it ideal for those looking for a complete receiver in the functions but cheap. The adoption of a BFO proves to be exemplary by the way, for a non-extreme use in the monitoring of broadcasting transmitters with single sideband is a enjoyable option even if the performance - given the selectivity - put the discrimination between LSB / USB not effective as what is found in other more refined models.
