FT-690 series :

The FT-690R transceiver, first introduced in 1981, was upgraded with the FT-690R II (Mark II) version, similar in specifications but with different front panel. The 10 Watts power output, an option in Mark II when used with the FL-6020 clip-on amplifier, is unavailable for the FT-690R.

FT-690R II repeater operation :

The key [RPT] activates standard repeater shift of the transmitting frequency relative to the receiving frequency: either + or - 1 MHz. Multiple presses of this key causes cycling through the three possible settings. When + or - shift is selected a "+" or "-" appears near the lower left corner of the display. The alternate function of this key [DUP] causes split frequency (semi-duplex) operation between VFOs A and B, with one VFO determining the transmit frequency and mode, and the other determining receiving frequency and mode. Both VFOs should first be set while receiving. A bar appears beneath the DUP label on the display, while + and - repeater shift selections are ignored in semi-duplex operation.
